Alicia Dana’s Experience Paracycling at the UCI Paracycling Road World Cups in Italy

The start of this handcycle season has been intense. The same day I raced the Boston Marathon (April 17), I rushed to Logan Airport and boarded a flight to Venice, Italy. Ahead were 3 weeks’ worth of UCI Paracycling Road World Cups, and the Paracycling Tour of Flanders, in Italy and Belgium. I worried that an overnight flight after a hard race effort where I got very cold and wet, might push me over the edge into getting sick (at worst) or just not fully recovered and race-ready (at best)

Alicia Dana’s Experience Hand-Cycling in the 2023 Boston Marathon

My handcycle racing season started with a bang on April 17th; the first stop was Boston Marathon. I had only raced Boston once before, the year of the cold, wet rain, and sleet – 2018. It was a miserable experience – although I won the Women’s division, my time was nothing to shout about, and I was just happy I survived it. This year, I was looking forward to better weather (I hoped) and a more enjoyable experience.
